Did you know that Kokino, in N. Macedonia is one of the oldest observatories in the entire world? Its history started billions of years ago when it was formed by volcanic eruptions. 30,000 years ago, during the Bronze age, a whole group of people lived and practiced religious rituals on the site. Because of its position, all nine marker cuttings at the eastern horizon used by the ancient "astronomers" for daily marking of the rising of the Sun and the Moon can be seen from here. NASA recognized Kokino as a significant heritage of this type in its "Timeless knowledge" project in 2005.
